On April 18, 2017, the Court of Appeals of Mississippi once again will travel to Oxford for oral arguments in a Criminal Appeals Clinic case and also this year, a civil appeal, which will be heard in Moot Court I beginning at 1:30 p.m.
As a part of the “Court On the Road” program, the COA sits in a special session of court at Mississippi State University in the fall and the UM School of Law in the spring.
This year marks the twelfth annual visit to the law school, and the Court will hear arguments in the case of Nicholas Demorst v. State of Mississippi, No. 2015-KA-01900-COA, and students in the current semester of the Criminal Appeals Clinic will deliver the arguments.
The briefs in the CAC case were written by students from last semester’s Clinic, Reginald “Chip” Lewis and Darian Etienne. The Court will also hear a civil case, Edith Davis Elmore v. Dixie Pipeline Company, No. 2015-KA-01499-COA, an appeal from Clarke Circuit Court involving damages resulting from a 2007 natural gas pipeline rupture and resulting explosion.
